As a family nurse practitioner of 11 years, and an RN for more than 25; I think you should consider more credit for the skills of a competent advance practice nurse. The most important lesson I learned, was to know my limitations, and when to call a physician. I have never been chastised for asking a question or asking for help. I specialize in end of life care, and explain on a daily basis that I am not a doctor, and do not allow patients, or families to say, “well you are just like one.” Nurses learn how to talk to patients, and that point of talking and listening to patients and their families is so clear in your book. I also provided home care and hospice and there is nothing that can replace the experience of being in a patient’s environment to really find out what is going on. I used call physicians and let them know why their patient was “non-compliant” a term I hate, and unless the plan is set up with the patient, family and whoever is involved; things usually won’t work out leading to the physician being frustrated and the patient more confused.

Thank you so much for a wonderful book and look at medical training.
